Not your usual ‘get shredded in 12 weeks’ advice

Summer holidays have started, and I'm already seeing posts about "surviving the next six weeks."

I get it.
Having the kids around 24/7 is intense. No nursery breaks, no quiet mornings, constant snacks and "I'm bored" every five minutes.

But here's the thing that hit me the other day: In 10-15 years, these same kids won't want to spend six weeks with you. They'll be off with mates, working summer jobs, or just too cool to hang around.

So maybe it's not about surviving… it's about actually enjoying this time while we've got it. That doesn't mean letting everything slide for six weeks and feeling awful by September.

It means managing yourself differently: Eat a smaller breakfast if you know you're having lunch out. Cut back on dinner if you've had ice cream with the kids. Plan around the chaos instead of fighting it.

You don't need to eat three normal-sized meals just because that's what you usually do. Adjust the ratios to fit around family time.

The last thing we want is disordered eating around the kids. They pick up on everything we do.

My coaching isn't about 12-week transformations or getting as ripped as possible. I hate the label, but I fit into the lifestyle coach more than I want to 🤣 I look at your whole life to see how we can make it work better.

That means looking at everything: how things are going with the kids, your stress levels, your sleep, the lot.

So yeah, the six-week holidays are hard, but it doesn't matter because we're just managing it. We're not trying to lose masses of weight during this time.

We're staying as close to optimal as your current life allows. If you need help managing yourself over the next six weeks so you can enjoy the holidays without losing all your progress, I'm here.

I did a 25km trail race in the Lakes a couple of weeks ago. Rated 5 out of 5 for difficulty. I'd only run about 60km the entire year before it. I sounds nuts but I did it for two reasons. The first is I want my kids to grow up thinking this stuff is normal. Training, pushing yourself, eating well, not drinking every weekend. Most people weren't brought up that way and for a lot of people exercise is just weird. I don't want that for my kids. I want them to see their dad doing hard things and...

Laura (my girlfriend) went vegan for a whole year once. She didn't watch a documentary or have some big moment about animals. (although she loves them) She just spent loads of time around one of my best mates who is vegan and it slowly rubbed off on her. She's not vegan anymore by the way. But it shows how much the people around you shape what you do without you noticing. If you're around caring people you end up more caring, and if you're around fit people you suddenly want to have a go...

I've not sent an email for a few weeks and I've done a 'classic'.. The longer I left it the more I got in my own head. I kept thinking 'what do I even send for the first one back', then 'it's been too long', then 'the first one back had to be a really good one'. The more I thought about it the less I did. It's not that I didn't want to send them. I love writing these. I just overthought it, got distracted and spent the time on something else instead. And it's exactly what most people do with...
